The program allows non-EU citizens to obtain residency in Italy by investing in innovative start-ups with a reduced investment amount, or in other companies with a higher investment amount. The program is administered by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and is open to individuals who meet the program's requirements. The programs requirements were last adapted in 2021.

Requirements

  1. Investment Amount: The investor must invest at least €250,000 in an approved innovative start-up, or €500,000 in one other Italian business.

  2. Source of Funds: The investor must provide evidence that the investment funds were obtained legally and are not related to any criminal activity.

  3. Background Check: The investor and their family members over the age of 14 must undergo a background check to ensure they have no criminal record.

  4. Health Insurance: The investor and their family members must have health insurance coverage in Italy.

Application Process

To apply for the Golden Visa program in Italy, investors must first choose a suitable investment option (Citizen Lane can offer investment options to you) and provide evidence of the source of funds. In a first step after committing to the investment we will apply for your investment visa; once the pre-approval (“Nulla Osta”) was received you must visit Italy, and apply for your Italian residence card within 8 days of arrival. The investment must be wired to the investment company after pre-approval but before coming to apply for the Italian Golden Visa residence card.

The application process typically takes one to three months to complete, but this can vary depending on the individual case. The first residency permit is valid for two years, and subsequent renewals every three years are required. The Golden Visa can be renewed indefinitely, as long as the investment requirements are maintained.
